The Tradie Roo book series wasn’t just written — it was designed to connect with kids and parents from cover to cover. At Wowwee Design™, we brought each page to life through playful book layout for children custom illustrations, and a brand voice that sings.
From Manuscript to Mock-Up
It all started with a story — fun, heartfelt tales full of Aussie charm. We took the raw manuscripts and transformed them into visual experiences. Every element was crafted to support the story, from typography to illustration pacing.
Designing for Kids and Parents
We didn’t just design for children. We designed for bedtime readers, curious toddlers, and busy parents. This meant balancing big, bold visuals with easy-to-read text, and creating layouts that guide the eye naturally through the page.
Character Consistency is Key
Every Tradie Roo book includes multiple members of the crew — and they all needed to look spot-on across every page. We used approved brand guidelines for each character, keeping poses, expressions, and clothing consistent across the series.
Typography That Talks
We designed a custom typography system using our own typeface for headlines and Poppins for the body. This gave the books a distinctive voice that felt modern, clean, and kid-friendly — without compromising readability.
Colour That Pops
Each book was carefully colour-managed to keep colours bright but print-friendly. With 4-colour CMYK print profiles, we tested paper stocks and lamination to ensure colours stayed vibrant while staying true to our design vision.
Layouts That Flow
Page-turning is part of the fun. We designed the page rhythm to enhance storytelling — single-page moments for punchy dialogue, double spreads for big emotional beats, and breathing room where needed to pause and reflect.
Print Specs Made Simple
We created full print-ready files with detailed specs: 28 pages, 180gsm stock, hardback covers, and oversized dust jackets. The books are printed in square format (305mm x 305mm), perfect for lap reading and shelf display.
Educational But Fun
Every Tradie Roo book has a deeper layer — teaching resilience, teamwork, and learning through mistakes. But we wrapped these lessons in humour, action, and Aussie slang so kids enjoy the ride and parents appreciate the purpose.
Designed for the Brand
This wasn’t just about making books. It was about designing an extension of the Tradie Roo universe. From front cover to endpaper, every visual element aligned with the brand’s tone, style, and values.
What We Delivered
We delivered more than books — we delivered a product experience that parents love, kids remember, and retailers want to stock. Great children’s book design isn’t decoration — it’s strategy, storytelling, and structure. And at Wowwee, we deliver all three.
